Students with ADHD may have short attention spans. They also may be easily distracted and have trouble with organization.

The following suggestions may help you better capture and hold these students' attention:

  • Introduce lessons in a clear, concise, and creative way
  • Avoid long lectures
    • Break lessons into smaller segments
    • Incorporate visual guides, summaries, or demonstrations
    • Combine with relevant activities that give students opportunities to actively respond to the lesson
    • Briefly review important points of the lesson
  • Encourage student participation
    • Encourage students to raise questions and initiate discussions
    • Provide opportunities for students to work in cooperative groups to further engage them in the learning process
  • Model note-taking
