Supporting Students With ADHD at Home

Laying the Groundwork for Learning

Share, Send, or Save

Considering the challenges faced by many children with ADHD, your child may have mixed feelings about school. However, the way you talk about school at home may help frame how your child thinks about school.

Talk to your child about how important school is. Help your child learn to take responsibility for the work he or she does at home and in class.

  • Know your child's strengths, and encourage him or her to explore these areas.
  • Set goals that can be tracked with objective measures over the school year, such as completing homework and starting classwork without prompts.
  • Explain to your child that working hard now may pay off later in life.
